So, this brand is the brand that is the most compared to Cochlear brand. Nearly everyone that calls me at the end of their research usually narrows it down between these two brands. I have the most research on Med-el and Cochlear and they are both tier 1 brands but are good in their own way. I can answer most questions about the comparison between these two.

Advanced Bionics cochlear implant brand

This is the third most asked about cochlear implant brand based on running this site. There are certain people I recommend this brand for that I do not recommend Cochlear or Med-el to. Whenever I meet people that have implants about 1 in 15 I meet have this brand. Every brand has its pros and cons so I hope people will do the right research before choosing.

This is the brand that is the most compared to Med-EL from nearly everyone that I talk to. It's 5050 as in half the audiologists say go with this one and the other half tell me Med-el. Each has their own convincing story. I will say that given the brochures everyone I interviewed choose this brand based on the brochure. I recommend this branD for certain people and Med EL for other people.

Oticon Brand - now owns Neurelec

I rarely hear about this brand and is mentioned so rarely that it is not worthy of doing a review on their cochlear implant. I have not met or talked to one person that has their implant.

As far as research on this, I am focusing my research on the 3 brands that actually invest in research and are constantly coming up with new technology instead of copying someone else's technology like some of the other newcomers.

Nurotron brand - this is not FDA approved in the USA so I have not reviewed it. I have not had any experiences where I have seen or talked to anyone who has had a cochlear implant from this brand. They have been around since 2006.

Brochures...

I spent the entire afternoon at Central Park in NYC and gave the brochures from these 3 companies and asked 15 random people over 4 hours which brand they would pick based on reading each brochure. All 15 people after looking over them picked the same one.

This was very scary that all 15 people picked the same brand.

There are a lot of contradicting statements that I am going to call out publicly that people might not pick up when researching all three brands.

I have heard people from each company say their company is the largest. I am getting sick of this!

I cannot stand getting these pop ups on my computer every time I log on. Since I research cochlear implants and talk with people daily about them, I get pop ups. This marketing that costs up to 50 dollars every time you click on their ad probably is what makes these so expensive. Manufacturer's competing is not fair when the consumer has to pay for it.

Reason for making this site: I went to all the cochlear implant booths at the walk for hearing a while back and reps at the booths kept telling me how theirs was better and I couldn't get a clear answer.... They said things like, "theirs is gonna fail in a few years if... or theirs doesn't do all the great things that ours does.. they all tried to spook me. I am not a little boy. I am not going to be spooked by their fear tactics. I didn't approach the booth to just listen in the hot sun how great theirs was. I still can't get answers to most of my questions so most of my research is not from manufacturer's or their sales reps. This site is a work in progress and I will be constantly updating it as I research new things.

My best advice:

I urge anyone that is getting a cochlear implant to not just research getting the right implant brand but also the crucial 2 week period right after implantation. This is what many people don't know and most people take the same generic directions they were told. I strongly recommend talking to someone to get educated on how the Sony headphones (see picture below) that are normally sold to people with tinnitus can be the biggest game changer in the 2 week period following the cochlear implant surgery. I have years of experience with these headphones although I am not allowed to make claims on this site. These headphones are probably the most important thing people will appreciate once they know about them.

Note: These headphones do not play music. These are special Sony headphones that people with auditory opportunities may want to research these.

I believe these should be mandatory for anyone during the first 2 weeks after getting a cochlear implant.

I know they are expensive so I can provide loaners based on my stock. Actually, most people can't afford buying these so it would be my pleasure to help someone who needs these.

For many people, they should never be owned, just used and then returned so the next person can benefit from them.

Consumer Notice: I strongly urge parents and those looking for a cochlear implant to talk to audiologists first and then the manufacturers for advice before sales pitches. Different surgeons have their favorite brand to work with so I urge people to talk to surgeons first, then brochures last. Also if talking to implant sales reps then reading the brochures, this is the worst way I believe anyone can research cochlear implants. Do not fall into the traps. These brochures can really trigger emotions and make people lose trust in any company but the one they are reading about. I am not a little boy. I am not going to be spooked by fear tactics.
