Warranties - Cochlear Implants

Fine Print. This is what 99% of the people don't read. Some brands have longer warranties but once that warranty period ends the prices are jacked up on any repairs or preplacement parts. Everyone is asking which has the longest warranty. I ask them how much consider if they are going to get screwed in the long run.

My research with people who have issues with their warranty did not really research the warranty and compare warranties between different brands. Most problems happen after about 5 years anyway from all my research and talking to people.

It is not just about malfunctions, the biggest expenses are damage from the users fault or they lost it, or stolen. I have heard parents tell me one of the kids stole their Childs implant (a form of bullying that I take this personally because I was bullied).

Note: Oh.. by the way, 99.99999% of the time if there is a part that is broken it is never the manufacturer's fault. So, if the warranty fine print says it was damaged and it was not a manufacturer's defect, this is also hard for most people to find and they end up paying for it.

Service contracts from the cochlear implant company
VS your PERSONAL HEALTH INSURANCE VS GETTING implant coverage from your home owner's policy. THIS IS ANOTHER THING THAT MANY PEOPLE MAKE THE WRONG DECISION ON. ALL 3 SHOULD BE LOOKED RESEARCHED. MOST PEOPLE GO WITH THE SAME ONE THAT 90% OF THE PEOPLE GO WITH.

If any repairs are covered, this is when I want to know which specific ones are covered and as well as replacements. Some don't cover DME products with some people.

Note: I have heard some insurance companies denying coverage (because they probably don't want to spend the money) and many times they won't put it in writing and then they will make the exception and cover the big expense (usually a lost implant replacement). About 50% of the time there is always some appeal. What good is having insurance if they don't want to help you. The biggest excuse is when they say you have exhausted your benefits. Thats BS. Again, the fine print will tell you what there services are "limited" to. That's the fine print. Usually when someone gets their doctor on the phone they listen more. The coverage is easier to argue when the patient is a child, not an adult.

Also, as far as replacements, most companies only will replace it ONCE for free. Some don't offer that but on the back end don't rip you off when its the 2nd or 3rd time years later. I always find out what the replacement costs are.

I have studied each company's warranties and most people would probably have lots of questions if they knew what they were really reading.
